Patrick Bruel's judicial control eased amid sexual assault investigation

French singer Patrick Bruel, who is under investigation for rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment, has had his judicial control restrictions eased. Previously prohibited from leaving France, Bruel was recently authorized to travel abroad by an investigating judge, a decision that has sparked significant controversy.

Following reports of the singer being seen in foreign airports and hotels, the Nanterre prosecutor's office has filed an appeal against the decision to lift the travel ban. The Versailles Court of Appeal's instruction chamber is scheduled to issue a ruling on the matter on September 16.

Legal representatives for several complainants, including lawyer Corinne Hermann, who represents Flavie Flament and five other women, have condemned the decision. Hermann described the easing of restrictions as ‘inadmissible’ and ‘incomprehensible,’ arguing that it sends a damaging message to victims of crime. She has called for the case to be transferred to the National Pole for Serial or Unsolved Crimes (PCSNE).
