Patrick Bruel placed in police custody over sexual assault allegations
On 8 June 2026, French singer and actor Patrick Bruel, 67, was taken into police custody (garde à vue) by the Nanterre prosecutor's office. The investigation concerns thirteen complaints of sexual assault and attempted rape alleged to have occurred between 1997 and 2001. The custody period was initially set at 24 hours and was later extended to a possible 48 hours, keeping him in detention until Wednesday morning.
Bruel has denied all accusations, reiterating a May 17 statement in which he said he never forced, drugged, or abused any woman. His close associates say he is focused on his defence and has prepared for the interview. No public comment has been made by Bruel himself since the arrest. Among the complainants is TV presenter Flavie Flament, who expressed relief that the justice system is hearing the victims' testimonies.
