Patrick Frei faces life sentence for sexual abuse scandal in Switzerland
A major sexual abuse scandal involving a Swiss politician has sparked widespread social and political unrest in the municipality of Untersiggenthal. Patrick Frei, a member of the Cantonal Parliament representing the right-wing Swiss People's Party (PPS), is accused of systematic sexual abuse, aggravated rape, attempted murder, and sexual acts with minors.
The Aargau Cantonal Prosecutor's Office has formally requested a life sentence for Frei, who has been in preventive detention since September 2023. The investigation, which began nearly three years ago, gained national attention following reports by the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper, which published testimonies from women who suffered abuse at the hands of the respected local official.
In response to the revelations, approximately 400 residents, primarily women, held a demonstration in Untersiggenthal to show solidarity with the victims and demand a transparent investigation. The case has ignited a broader national debate regarding domestic brutality, machismo, and the double standards of political figures.
