Patrick Kane chose Chicago Blackhawks over Buffalo Sabres
NHL veteran Patrick Kane revealed that his decision during free agency came down to a choice between returning to his roots with the Buffalo Sabres or returning to the Chicago Blackhawks, where he previously won three Stanley Cups.
Kane, a South Buffalo native, noted that Buffalo Sabres General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen was among the first to contact him when free agency opened on July 1. Kane cited the Sabres' young talent, their recent Atlantic Division title, and the organization's direction as significant factors that made the decision difficult.
Ultimately, Kane chose to sign a two-year, $16 million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on July 23. He described the move as a “full circle moment,” expressing a desire to help the rebuilding Blackhawks organization return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
