Patrick Kane signs two‑year $16 million deal, returns to Chicago Blackhawks

Patrick Kane, the 37‑year‑old three‑time Stanley Cup champion, has signed a two‑year contract worth $16 million (average $8 million per season) to rejoin the Chicago Blackhawks, the team that drafted him first overall in 2007 and where he spent his first 16 NHL seasons. The deal, announced by Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson, includes a full no‑movement clause. Kane entered free agency after three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, where he recorded 16 goals and 41 assists in 67 games last season.

During his original stint in Chicago, Kane helped the Blackhawks win championships in 2010, 2013 and 2015 and finished second in franchise history in points (1,225) and assists (779). The Blackhawks hope his return will boost a struggling offense as the club seeks its first playoff appearance since the 2020‑21 season. Rookie No. 1 overall pick Connor Bedard, who is currently recovering from shoulder surgery, is expected to line up with Kane later in the season. The organization also discussed the possibility of a one‑game contract for former captain Jonathan Toews, but no agreement has been reached.
