Patrick Lange withdraws from Ironman World Championship in Hawaii

Three-time Ironman World Champion Patrick Lange was forced to withdraw from his final Ironman World Championship in Hawaii due to severe cramping. The German triathlete had to stop the race during the cycling portion after completing 96 kilometers on the bike, stating that he could no longer apply power to the pedals.

Lange described the experience as the “bitterest exit in my career,” noting his desire to have a strong final race to thank the island for his past successes. Despite the disappointment, he chose to remain at the course as a volunteer, providing water and ice to his competitors to give back to the event.

Lange indicated that this setback would not define his career and plans to officially celebrate his retirement from professional sports at the Challenge Roth on July 4, 2027.
