Patrick Lefevere questions Primož Roglič to Lotto-Intermarché rumors

Patrick Lefevere, the former head of the Quick-Step cycling team, has expressed skepticism regarding reports that Lotto-Intermarché is in talks to sign Slovenian cyclist Primož Roglič. Writing in Het Nieuwsblad, Lefevere suggested that the interest in the 36-year-old may be driven more by marketing potential than competitive necessity, noting that teams are not necessarily “lining up” to sign him.

Lefevere pointed to Roglič’s recent struggles, including a lack of success this season and frequent crashes, as reasons for caution. He questioned the wisdom of investing in an older rider, citing Lotto-Intermarché’s past recruitment of established stars like John Degenkolb, Elia Viviani, and Philippe Gilbert. According to Lefevere, those three riders spent six seasons with the team but combined for only four victories, none of which occurred at the WorldTour level.

Beyond individual performance, Lefevere criticized the broader strategic direction and management stability of Lotto-Intermarché, suggesting the team lacks a clear long-term vision due to frequent leadership changes.
