Patrick Lefevere reveals internal Soudal Quick-Step tensions

Former Soudal Quick-Step CEO Patrick Lefevere has revealed internal tensions within the team, including a direct confrontation between riders Mauri Vansevenant and Remco Evenepoel. The incident occurred on the team bus prior to Il Lombardia during a period of uncertainty caused by rumors of a potential merger with Jumbo-Visma in 2023. Vansevenant reportedly told Evenepoel, “You are destroying the Wolfpack.”

Lefevere also criticized his successor, Jurgen Foré, regarding roster management for the 2027 season. Following the announcement of Ben Turner’s arrival, the team’s roster is projected to reach 31 riders, exceeding the permitted limit. Lefevere described this as a mistake by Foré, noting that the team must now find a way to create an additional spot or manage the promotion of talent from the development team to comply with regulations.
