Patrick Mahomes becomes NFL's highest-paid player

Patrick Mahomes has reclaimed his position as the highest-paid player in the NFL following a contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs. The deal, which runs through 2033, is valued at $504.75 million, making it the first in league history to exceed $500 million. Depending on specific bonus clauses, the total value could reach $522.25 million.

For the 2026/2027 season, Mahomes is projected to earn a total of $88.8 million. This includes $56.8 million in on-field salary and bonuses, and $32 million from sponsorships and business ventures. Starting in 2027, his average annual salary will reach an unprecedented $64 million, surpassing Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys.

Beyond his playing contract, Mahomes has built a significant business portfolio. He is an investor in the athletic performance technology company WHOOP, which saw its valuation rise from approximately $1.2 billion in 2020 to $10.1 billion by March 2026. His financial strategy focuses on leveraging his athletic reputation to invest in companies within the sports and performance industries.
