Patrick Mahomes pushes to start Week 1 despite knee injury

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs is urging the team to let him play in the season opener, despite having torn his ACL and LCL in December. He says his goal is to be ready for Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, a game he views as crucial in the tightly contested AFC West.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and the medical staff are weighing the risk of re‑injury. If Mahomes is not cleared, backup quarterback Justin Fields is slated to start. Mahomes has been rehabbing at the team facility and is set to join his teammates at training camp in the coming weeks.
