Patrick Mahomes sits out Chiefs preseason game amid injury recovery

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes sat out the preseason matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the team continues to manage his recovery from a serious knee injury. Mahomes, who suffered torn ACL and LCL in his left knee last December, expressed a desire to play during the game but noted that head coach Andy Reid and the medical staff made the final decision.

Mahomes reported feeling “more and more athletic” during training camp and expressed confidence in his recovery process. He has been wearing a brace on his surgically repaired knee throughout the summer. The Chiefs are scheduled to finish their preseason against the Seattle Seahawks this Friday.

In the preseason game itself, the Chiefs lost 16-15 to the Buccaneers. Notable individual performances included wide receiver Jalen Royals, who recorded six catches for 51 yards, and defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah, who recorded four pressures.
