Patrick Witt departs White House crypto policy team
Patrick Witt, a key figure managing cryptocurrency policy for the Trump administration, has concluded his partial assignment at the White House. Witt played a central role in negotiating the 2025 crypto legislation within the Senate, specifically working to resolve disputes between financial institutions and cryptocurrency companies.
His departure comes amid legislative uncertainty. Efforts to pass the bill faced setbacks following disagreements regarding stablecoin earnings and potential conflicts of interest related to digital asset trading. Additionally, Democratic objections to ethical regulations contributed to the failure of a Senate support vote in late September.
Witt’s exit marks the third significant leadership change within the administration's crypto team. He follows Bo Hines, who departed in August 2025 to join Tether; David Sacks, who transitioned to a broader technology policy role in March; and Harry Jung, who left in July.
