Patrick Witt leaves White House Crypto Council leadership role

Patrick Witt has departed from his role as the executive director of the White House Presidential Council of Advisors for Digital Assets. A government official confirmed that Witt’s temporary assignment, which originated from the Defense Department, has expired.

Witt’s departure occurs as the administration faces leadership vacancies within its digital asset team. He was the third senior crypto official to leave the Trump administration this year, following the departures of David Sacks and Harry Jung. The White House has not yet named a successor to lead the council.

Witt was a central figure in negotiations for the CLARITY Act, a legislative proposal intended to establish regulatory clarity by determining whether the SEC or the CFTC holds jurisdiction over various digital assets and trading platforms. The progress of this legislation has recently stalled in the U.S. Senate, with a vote to advance the bill failing to gain sufficient support in mid-September.
