Patrik Lê Giang joins Vietnam football squad ahead of ASEAN Cup 2026

Vietnamese‑born goalkeeper Patrik Lê Giang arrived at the Grand Plaza hotel on 22 June to join the Vietnam national team’s training camp for the upcoming ASEAN Cup 2026. The Slovakia‑based player, who recently obtained Vietnamese citizenship, said he had been waiting three years for the chance to wear the “Binh đoàn Rồng Vàng” jersey. He will compete for the starting goalkeeper spot with veteran Đặng Văn Lâm and youngster Trần Trung Kiên.

Lê Giang’s call‑up follows a recent wave of naturalised overseas Vietnamese players bolstering the squad, and coach Kim Sang‑sik has indicated that the team aims to defend its regional title at the ASEAN Cup. The midfielder also expressed confidence that his language studies and experience in both Slovakian and Vietnamese leagues will help him integrate quickly.
