Patrik Laine linked to five NHL teams amid free agency

Finnish forward Patrik Laine remains an unrestricted free agent as the NHL preseason approaches. Following a difficult season with the Montreal Canadiens, where he played only five games due to knee surgery, Laine is being linked to several potential destinations.

Reports from the Montreal Gazette suggest five teams are interested in his services: the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Minnesota Wild, and Tampa Bay Lightning. A potential move to Toronto has drawn particular attention, as it could see Laine playing alongside captain Auston Matthews.

Due to his extensive injury history and previous high salary, analysts suggest Laine will likely pursue a short-term, incentive-based contract. Such a deal would allow teams to mitigate risk while providing the goal-scoring potential Laine has demonstrated throughout his career.
