Patrik Laine targeted by Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings
Finnish forward Patrik Laine, currently a free agent, is reportedly being targeted by two NHL teams seeking offensive reinforcement: the Los Angeles Kings and the Detroit Red Wings.
Reports from a Finnish podcast suggest the Los Angeles Kings are interested due to a significant offensive void caused by a serious injury to Kevin Fiala. Meanwhile, the Detroit Red Wings are facing organizational challenges and are also looking to bolster their roster.
Laine, 28, has not played in the NHL since October 2025 following an injury. While recognized as one of the world’s premier goal-scorers on the power play, analysts note that his fundamental play has struggled to keep pace with the evolving speed of the league. His recent period of unemployment follows a difficult tenure with the Montreal Canadiens and a period of addressing mental health challenges through the NHL/NHLPA program.
