Patrik Wålemark criticizes mental environment at Feyenoord
Swedish footballer Patrik Wålemark has spoken candidly about his difficult period at the Dutch club Feyenoord. The 24-year-old, who currently plays for Lech Poznan in Poland, described experiencing “mental games” and constant negativity during his time in Rotterdam.
Wålemark stated that the club focused heavily on his shortcomings and that the scrutiny extended beyond his performance on the pitch. He noted that he felt as though he were being constantly tested, citing instances where he was questioned about his appearance, such as his hair or looking tired during breakfast. He compared the experience to being back in school, noting that the pressure caused him to lose a sense of himself.
Despite the negativity from certain individuals within the club, Wålemark praised his former teammates for being supportive and kind. Since moving to Poland on loan in the summer of 2024, he has seen improved form, recording 18 goals and 10 assists in 61 matches, which has led to his recent call-up to the Swedish national team.
