Patriotic Progressive Alliance joins UNITE-NUP alliance

The Patriotic Progressive Alliance (PPA), led by Dr. Ousman Gajigo, has ended its planned merger with Gambia For All (GFA) and joined the UNITE-NUP alliance. This strategic shift comes ahead of The Gambia’s presidential election scheduled for December 2026.

Dr. Gajigo stated that the decision to break with GFA stemmed from an “irreconcilable difference” regarding the timing of alliance commitments. While the PPA sought immediate consolidation to prepare for the election, GFA is still undergoing its internal process to decide which political grouping to support.

Dr. Gajigo described the split as an amicable separation and characterized the UNITE-NUP alliance as a credible foundation for an opposition bloc capable of offering a real alternative to the current leadership. The move highlights the intensifying competition among opposition groups to form cohesive coalitions before the 2026 vote.
