Patrizia Mercolino unveils book on son Domenico's fatal transplant at Italian Parliament

On 28 July 2026, Patrizia Mercolino presented the book “Un cuore bruciato. La tua storia. Per non dimenticare” in the press room of the Italian Chamber of Deputies. The book, co‑written with lawyer Francesco Petruzzi and published by Piemme, recounts the death of her 2½‑year‑old son Domenico Caliendo, who died on 21 February 2026 after receiving a damaged organ transplant at Naples’s Monaldi Hospital.

The event was attended by Sub‑secretary Matilde Siracusano, deputies Simonetta Matone and Rita Dalla Chiesa, and prosecutor Annalisa Imparato. Mercolino also announced a foundation named after Domenico to support patients and families, calling for justice and measures to prevent similar tragedies.
