Patrocínio, Brazil Emerges as Global Coffee Hub

Patrocínio, a municipality in Minas Gerais, has earned the nickname “world coffee capital.” Covering about 42,830 hectares, it leads Brazil’s arabica output with more than 64,000 tonnes each year. The town’s coffee sector has shifted from bulk production to specialty coffee, exemplified by Fazenda Nunes. Founded in 1984 on ten hectares, the farm has expanded to roughly 300 hectares and now supplies high‑quality beans to markets as far as Tokyo and London. The growth of the Planeta Café brand reflects this push for international reputation, sustainability and certified production, positioning Patrocínio as a model for modern coffee agriculture.

The story highlights how local families, agronomists and researchers have modernized planting, processing and certification, turning the region’s coffee into a globally recognised commodity that supports millions of families while meeting rising consumer demand for traceability and environmental responsibility.
