Pattaya City investigates allegations of undocumented fines at Bali Hai Pier
Pattaya City authorities have launched an investigation following a viral video that allegedly shows officials collecting fines from tourists without issuing official receipts. The incident reportedly took place near the Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya, where officers allegedly stopped individuals for offenses such as loud motorcycle exhausts and smoking in public areas.
The Pattaya City Clerk has ordered an immediate fact-finding mission to determine the legality of the enforcement and whether the collected funds were properly documented. Investigators are looking into the authorization and use of a blue tent used by the officials during these encounters. A report from the responsible officers is expected by August 10, 2026.
Local authorities advise visitors and foreign residents to request official identification from officers and demand written receipts for any payments made to ensure transparency.
