Pattaya court denies bail for suspects in Russian siblings' murder case

Two Thai men, Thana ‘Pong’ Kirdthong, 43, and Thongchai ‘Thong’ Srinin, 39, remain in custody after the Pattaya Provincial Court denied bail. The defendants are facing multiple charges related to the deaths of two Russian siblings, aged 22 and 17, whose bodies were discovered in a forest near Khao Chi Chan in Chon Buri province in late July.

While the suspects denied intentional murder and conflicting accounts were given regarding sexual violence, they pleaded guilty to several other charges. These include illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and a grenade, impersonating police officers, unlawful detention, robbery resulting in death, and concealing or disposing of bodies to hide the cause of death.

The investigation is linked to a separate but related case involving the murders of a Thai family of three, whose bodies were also discovered in a coconut grove. The suspects were apprehended near the Cambodian border while allegedly attempting to flee the country. The case has reignited discussions regarding the death penalty in Thailand, as the families of the victims have called for the maximum sentence.
