Thai police rescue three Indian tourists from Pattaya kidnapping
Three Indian nationals were lured to Pattaya, Thailand, by an inexpensive seven‑day tour package and held captive for nearly a week. During captivity they were bound, bruised, beaten on their ankles and hung upside down. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of about ₹70 lakh (≈2.4 million baht) from the victims’ families.
Thai police rescued the victims from a rented house in the Bang Lamung district after tracing a phone number registered in Dubai and using CCTV footage. The investigation led to the arrest of five Indian men in Bangkok’s Khlong Tan district; the suspects said they had been recruited by a Pakistani national based in Dubai who coordinated the plot via a chat application. Following the incident, Thailand’s immigration bureau warned tourists against unusually cheap travel packages.
The Indian Embassy in Thailand alerted authorities after families reported the kidnapping, prompting the rescue operation.
