Pattaya police rescue toy shop employee from knife-wielding hostage taker

A 32-year-old man was arrested after holding a toy shop employee hostage at knifepoint in the Nong Prue area near Pattaya on September 29. The suspect, identified as Wirachai, allegedly used a utility knife and scissors to threaten 31-year-old employee Suleeporn Nongyai behind the shop counter.

The standoff lasted approximately one hour. After the shop owner observed the incident via CCTV cameras, police, district officials, and rescue volunteers arrived at the scene. While officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect by telephone, he refused to surrender. Authorities eventually gained entry to the shop using a spare key and overpowered the man while he was distracted.

The employee was rescued with only a minor cut to her hand. Following his arrest, a drug test for the suspect returned a positive result for methamphetamine. Reports indicate the man admitted to using the drug, which caused paranoia and the belief that police were pursuing him.
