Patti Sonntag diagnosed with cancer linked to 9/11 toxic dust
Patti Sonntag, a student who volunteered at Ground Zero during the September 11 attacks, has been diagnosed with retroperitoneal liposarcoma, a rare form of cancer. The World Trade Centre Health Program has officially certified that her cancer is linked to the toxic dust exposure experienced at the site 25 years ago.
Sonntag, originally from Fernie, reported that her symptoms began in 2011, leading to a 15-year struggle for an accurate diagnosis. Following her recent diagnosis, she underwent a compartmentectomy to remove a tumor that had spread to several internal organs and muscle tissue.
