Patty L’Abbate proposes e-bike and scooter safety rules in Italy

Italian Deputy Patty L’Abbate of the Movimento 5 Stelle has introduced a legislative proposal to the Chamber of Deputies aimed at improving the safety of e-bike and electric scooter users. The proposal, which has received a favorable opinion from the Government, is part of a broader revision and reorganization of the Italian Highway Code.

The initiative originated from community discussions in Gravina in Puglia, where citizens expressed concerns regarding the coexistence of pedestrians, electric bicycles, and scooters in urban spaces. The proposed agenda focuses on strengthening education and awareness regarding speed, right-of-way, traffic rules, and the respect of pedestrian zones to ensure sustainable mobility is also safe mobility.
