Pau Cubarsí leads 2026 Golden Boy rankings
FC Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsí has emerged as the frontrunner for the 2026 Golden Boy award. The 19-year-old centre-back has risen to the top of the provisional rankings following a standout season with both his club and the Spanish national team.
Cubarsí’s ascent follows his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he was named the tournament’s Best Young Player. He currently leads the standings with 81,206 points, narrowly ahead of teammate Lamine Yamal, who holds 80,583 points. Because Yamal previously won the award in 2024, he is ineligible for the 2026 title.
The provisional top five contenders include Real Madrid’s Yan Diomande, Paris Saint-Germain’s Warren Zaire-Emery, and Lille’s Aïyoub Bouaddi. If successful, Cubarsí would become the fifth Barcelona player to win the honor, joining previous winners such as Lionel Messi and Pedri.
