Paul Aguilar attributes football retirement to depression after father's death

Former Mexican professional footballer Paul Aguilar has revealed that the death of his father led to a period of depression that ultimately caused his retirement from the sport. In a recent interview, Aguilar explained that his father was his primary supporter and that the loss fractured his passion for the game, leading him to realize he no longer enjoyed playing professionally.

A highly decorated defender, Aguilar enjoyed a successful career with Pachuca and Club América. During his time with Pachuca, he won the 2006 Copa Sudamericana, two Liga MX titles, and three CONCACAF Champions Cup trophies. His tenure at Club América included three additional Liga MX titles and two CONCACAF Champions League crowns. Aguilar concluded his professional career following a stint with FC Juárez in July 2022.
