Paul-Angelo recovers after near-fatal drowning in B.C. river

A nine-year-old boy from Calgary, Paul-Angelo, has returned home following a near-fatal drowning incident in the Shuswap River in Enderby, British Columbia. On August 3, the boy became trapped underwater by driftwood for approximately five to ten minutes at W. J. Tuey Regional Park.

His life was saved by a team of off-duty healthcare professionals who performed resuscitation on the beach. After spending eight days in a medically induced coma at B.C. Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, Paul-Angelo has shown a remarkable recovery, with medical tests indicating no brain damage from the lack of oxygen.

While he continues to recover and heal his lungs, his family is advocating for increased water safety awareness and improved safety measures in British Columbia.
