Paul Breitner: The historic transfer from Real Madrid to Eintracht Braunschweig

In the summer of 1977, world champion Paul Breitner made a high-profile transfer from Real Madrid to Eintracht Braunschweig. The move, facilitated by Jägermeister chief and club patron Günter Mast, involved a transfer fee of approximately 1.6 million D-Mark, making Breitner the third most expensive signing in the club's history.

Despite receiving offers from major international clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Olympique Marseille, Breitner chose Braunschweig due to the financial backing of Mast and the club's competitive standing after finishing third in the previous season.
