Paul Bérenger criticizes Mauritian Parliament recess
Paul Bérenger, leader of the Front Militan Progresis (FMP), has criticized the decision to recess the Mauritian Parliament until October 20, describing the situation as “revolting, even dangerous.”
During a press conference, the opposition leadership argued that the prolonged break prevents the National Assembly from addressing several urgent national issues. These include pension system reforms, the drug crisis, the Chagos Archipelago sovereignty issue, electoral reform, and the Kistnen affair.
Bérenger also criticized the recent expedited passage of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill, which was voted on in a single day without sufficient consultation with professionals or civil society. The FMP expressed concerns regarding specific provisions in the bill and noted a lack of transparency within parliamentary committees, particularly concerning the Financial Crimes Commission.
