Paul Gascoigne criticizes England players over lack of passion

Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne has criticized the lack of passion and commitment among current England national team players. Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, Gascoigne expressed frustration regarding the emotional connection players have with the national jersey.

The debate over player dedication follows the withdrawal of several high-profile players from manager Thomas Tuchel’s squad ahead of Nations League matches against Spain, Czechia, and Croatia. Players including Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, and Marcus Rashford have withdrawn, citing “injury problems.” However, observers noted that four of these players started for their respective Premier League clubs the previous weekend without apparent injury.

Gascoigne contrasted the current era with the period under manager Bobby Robson, noting that the frequent changes in squad composition and team chemistry can lead to player dissatisfaction. He recalled his own debut for the U-21 side, where he celebrated a goal by jumping a fence onto a motorway, to illustrate the intense pride he felt representing his country.
