Paul Gerhardt commemorated on 350th anniversary of death
The Raselius Choir is organizing a special church music program on December 4, 2026, to honor the 350th anniversary of the death of Paul Gerhardt. Gerhardt remains one of the most popular hymn writers in the Evangelical Church, known for enduring texts such as ‘Geh aus, mein Herz, und suche Freud’ and ‘Befiehl du deine Wege’.
To transform his lyrics into songs, Gerhardt collaborated with various cantors, including Johann Crüger and Johann Georg Ebeling, who composed the initial melodies. The upcoming commemorative program will feature diverse musical compositions based on his texts, including works by Rudolf Mauersberger, Hugo Distler, Ferdinand Hiller, and British composer Ethel Smyth. Admission to the event is free.
