Paul Greengrass reveals why he declined to direct James Bond

Director Paul Greengrass has revealed that he turned down an offer to direct a James Bond film following his work on ‘The Bourne Supremacy’. Speaking on the podcast ‘The Rest Is Classified’, Greengrass explained that his decision was rooted in a sense of loyalty to the Jason Bourne franchise.

Greengrass compared the choice to a football player moving between rival clubs, stating, “It’s a bit like playing for Manchester United and then signing for Manchester City. It wouldn't feel right.” He expressed deep respect for producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, as well as for Daniel Craig’s portrayal of the secret agent.

While the future of the Bourne series remains uncertain, Matt Damon has previously indicated his availability to reprise the role if a suitable story is developed. Meanwhile, development continues on the next 007 installment, with screenwriter Steven Knight having completed an initial script treatment.
