Paul Mashatile to remain off duty following medical procedure
South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile announced on Tuesday that he is recovering well following a minor medical procedure. While he reported that he is regaining strength daily, he will remain off normal duties until his doctors advise otherwise.
The update follows several weeks of uncertainty regarding his health and absence from public engagements after becoming unwell at his home in Johannesburg. The Presidency previously confirmed he underwent a minor surgical procedure in early August, noting that President Cyril Ramaphosa had visited him.
During his recovery, Mashatile has remained in contact with officials and has participated in parliamentary proceedings and other important meetings via virtual platforms. His continued absence from public campaigning has raised questions regarding his visibility within the African National Congress (ANC) ahead of upcoming political processes.
