Paul McCartney disputes height accuracy in upcoming Beatles films
Paul McCartney has expressed concerns regarding the physical accuracy of the upcoming Beatles biopic series directed by Sam Mendes. During an appearance on the ‘Good Hang’ podcast with Amy Poehler, the musician noted that the cast's heights do not accurately reflect the band's real-life proportions.
McCartney emphasized that the members of The Beatles were roughly the same height, with only Ringo Starr being slightly shorter. He specifically pointed out a discrepancy in the upcoming production where Paul Mescal, playing McCartney, appears shorter than Harris Dickinson, who is cast as John Lennon. McCartney reported contacting Mendes after seeing a production still of the cast recreating the iconic ‘Abbey Road’ crossing, noting that the height difference was visible.
Mendes reportedly reassured McCartney that the perceived difference was due to the actors' strides and provided additional images where the cast appeared to be of equal height. This is not the first time McCartney has raised such concerns; he recalled dissatisfaction with the 2009 film ‘Nowhere Boy,’ where he felt his character was portrayed as smaller and more fragile than Lennon.
The ambitious four-film cinematic event, scheduled for release in April 2028, will feature Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.
