Paul McCartney raises height concerns for Beatles biopic

Paul McCartney has expressed concerns regarding the physical portrayal of himself in Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopic series, ‘The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event’. Speaking on the ‘Good Hang with Amy Poehler’ podcast, McCartney noted that photos from the filming of the iconic Abbey Road cover made actor Paul Mescal appear “markedly shorter” than Harris Dickinson, who is portraying John Lennon.

McCartney reached out to director Sam Mendes via text to request that the height difference not be emphasized, citing a previous dissatisfaction with the 2009 film ‘Nowhere Boy’, where he felt his character was depicted as a “weakling” compared to Lennon. Mendes reportedly reassured McCartney that the perceived difference in a still photo was due to the actors' strides and provided a subsequent image showing the cast members at equal height.

The cinematic project, produced by Neal Street Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment, will feature four films telling the band's history from the perspective of each member. The cast includes Paul Mescal as McCartney, Harris Dickinson as Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.
