Paul McCartney recalls admiration for Queen Elizabeth II

Musician Paul McCartney has shared reflections on his long-standing relationship with the late Queen Elizabeth II. During an appearance on Amy Poehler’s podcast, ‘Good Hang’, McCartney identified the Queen as the most impressive person he has ever met, noting that he never managed to obtain her autograph.

McCartney first met the monarch in 1965 when the Beatles were awarded MBEs. Over the decades, their interactions included his knighthood in 1997 and a final meeting in 2018 during a ceremony where he was awarded the Order of Merit. McCartney expressed deep respect for the Queen, specifically highlighting her sense of humor.

McCartney also shared a lighthearted anecdote from his wife, Nancy Shevell, who suggested that the Queen may have had a fondness for him. McCartney remarked, “Now, we don’t know if there is any truth to that… but I like to think it was true.”
