Paul McCartney reflects on John Lennon and recent media appearances
Sir Paul McCartney recently reflected on his relationship with the late John Lennon during a conversation with director Judd Apatow. While McCartney maintained that he always viewed Lennon as a cool figure he looked up to, he noted that Lennon “could be a complete idiot” regarding certain matters, particularly during the tense period in the early 1970s following the breakup of The Beatles.
McCartney suggested that Lennon may have been irritated by his musical direction with his band Wings, noting that Lennon might have expected something different while McCartney was pursuing a more “madcap” style. This follows a history of public friction, including Lennon’s 1971 dismissal of McCartney’s early solo work.
In addition to these reflections, the 84-year-old musician appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in Brooklyn. His appearance drew significant praise from fans on social media regarding his youthful look. The television appearance coincides with the upcoming digital and vinyl releases of a special edition of his album, ‘The Boys of Dungeon Lane’.
