Paul McCartney selects Beatles song for hypothetical alien encounter

During a Q&A session celebrating the release of his book, ‘The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present’, Paul McCartney shared which Beatles song he would play for extraterrestrials if they were to land on Earth.

While considering iconic tracks like ‘Hey Jude’ and ‘Let It Be’, McCartney ultimately chose ‘Yesterday’. He noted that the 1965 track possesses a perfect melodic structure and represents a pivotal moment when the band demonstrated its ability to transcend musical boundaries.

The discussion also touched upon the song's origins, noting that McCartney composed the melody in 1964 while at the home of his then-girlfriend, Jane Asher, initially using the placeholder lyrics ‘Scrambled eggs, oh my baby how I love you’.
