Paul Nicolau becomes new sponsor for Steaua Bucharest volleyball

Businessman Paul Nicolau, widely known as ‘Pescobar’, has signed a sponsorship contract with the Steaua Bucharest volleyball section for the 2026-2027 competitive season.

The partnership has sparked debate among supporters and sports analysts. Former Professional Football League (LPF) president Dumitru Dragomir commented on the move, suggesting that the decision was primarily a strategic marketing effort to increase Nicolau’s public visibility. Dragomir noted that while the sponsorship is significant for the volleyball section, Nicolau likely lacks the massive financial resources required to fund the club’s football team, which requires millions of euros.

Despite the controversy regarding Nicolau’s past support for rival club FCSB, Dragomir expressed optimism regarding the future of the Steaua football team, suggesting they may eventually find a major investor from the arms industry to secure promotion.
