Paul Pelosi absent from first court appearance in Napa County hit-and-run case
Paul Pelosi, 86, failed to appear for his first scheduled court date in Napa County Superior Court regarding a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge. His attorney, Amanda Bevins, appeared on his behalf and entered a not guilty plea.
The charges stem from a July 3 crash in which Pelosi allegedly struck a parked Tesla while driving a Maserati convertible. According to the criminal complaint, Pelosi left the scene without providing the information required by California law. Deputies reportedly located him approximately a half-mile away, where he allegedly stated he had intended to return to the crash site.
In addition to the misdemeanor hit-and-run charge, Pelosi faces an infraction for an unsafe turning movement. The Napa County District Attorney’s Office noted that it made an exception to its typical policy of not issuing news releases for misdemeanor property damage cases due to the significant public interest in the matter.
