Paul Pimienta forced to retire from rugby due to repeated concussions

Professional rugby player Paul Pimienta has been forced to retire from the sport due to repeated concussions. The 31-year-old center, who most recently played for Brive after a long tenure with Colomiers, has had his playing license revoked by medical professionals.

Following multiple concussions, including two sustained between August and November, a neurosurgeon determined that continuing to play poses an unacceptable health risk. The medical mandate is absolute, prohibiting Pimienta from playing rugby even at an amateur level to prevent further neurological damage.

Pimienta reported that ten months after his last major impact, he continues to suffer from lingering symptoms, including neck pressure and difficulties with visual perception. He noted that even playing other ball sports like padel has become challenging due to impaired reflexes.
