Paul Scholes handed six-month driving ban after speeding convictions

Former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Scholes has been handed a six-month driving ban following two motoring convictions processed in two days. The 51-year-old was sentenced after legal proceedings in Bradford and Manchester.

The first conviction involved a speeding offence in March, where Scholes was driving a Range Rover at 37mph in a 30mph zone in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire. Because he already had penalty points on his licence, he was ineligible for a speed awareness course and faced a mandatory disqualification.

The second case involved a Mercedes registered to Scholes that was caught speeding in a 30mph zone near Ashton-under-Lyne in November last year. While the speeding charge for this specific incident was withdrawn, Scholes was convicted for failing to respond to two police letters requesting confirmation of the driver's identity.

In total, Scholes was ordered to pay £1,472 in fines, court costs, and victim surcharges. The hearings were conducted under the Single Justice Procedure, and Scholes was convicted in his absence.
