Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and Christine Fréchette hold Quebec transition meeting

Quebec Premier-designate Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and outgoing Premier Christine Fréchette met in Quebec City on Tuesday for a transition meeting. The discussion covered urgent and sensitive topics, including the economy, employment, relations with the United States, and the Churchill Falls hydroelectric agreement with Newfoundland and Labrador.

Following the meeting, St-Pierre Plamondon described the transition as orderly and collaborative. The Parti Québécois recently secured a mandate to form a minority government after winning 59 seats in the recent election. The Coalition Avenir Québec, which had been in power since 2018, failed to elect any deputies.

St-Pierre Plamondon’s upcoming priorities include addressing homelessness through a special budget, reducing gas prices, and implementing regulatory relief. The new Premier is scheduled to be sworn in with his cabinet on October 21, following the swearing-in of Parti Québécois deputies this Thursday.
