Paul St-Pierre-Plamondon pledges Saguenay bridge and Churchill Falls review
During an electoral blitz in Baie-Comeau, Parti Québécois leader Paul St-Pierre-Plamondon addressed key infrastructure and energy issues. He pledged that a PQ government would begin construction on a bridge over the Saguenay River by 2030. The project, estimated to cost $4 billion, would aim to connect the Côte-Nord region without tolls, potentially through a public-private partnership.
St-Pierre-Plamondon also commented on the Churchill Falls framework agreement signed in August 2026. He stated that a PQ administration would conduct due diligence on all aspects of the deal before it is finalized. The agreement involves $45 billion in Hydro-Québec investments and aims to generate over 10,000 megawatts of power.
The Churchill Falls project faces opposition from the Innu Matimekush-Lac John and Innu Takuaikan Uashat mak Mani-utenam councils, who argue the power plant is located on their Nitassinan. St-Pierre-Plamondon emphasized a commitment to nation-to-nation dialogue and improving relations with First Nations compared to the current CAQ government.
