Paul Wight compares modern wrestlers to previous generations

Professional wrestler Paul Wight, also known as ‘Big Show’, has commented on the generational shift within the wrestling industry. Speaking on the ‘Inside The Ring’ podcast, Wight noted that modern wrestlers differ significantly from the ‘old-timers’ who worked under Vince McMahon.

Wight described previous generations as being more ruthless and self-interested, stating they were often “mean” and “ungiving” regarding business dealings. He noted that older talent focused heavily on maximizing their own earnings and protecting their interests rather than the health of the company.

In contrast, Wight characterized today’s talent as “a lot softer,” suggesting that many current wrestlers are driven by their passion as fans. He observed that many modern performers are primarily motivated by the opportunity to appear on television, sometimes at the expense of negotiating for higher compensation.
