Cuban actress Paula Alí, National Television award winner, dies at 90

Paula Alí, a celebrated Cuban actress, died on Monday in Havana at the age of 90. She had received the Premio Nacional de Televisión 2026 on 22 July, just weeks before her death. Alí’s career spanned more than six decades, beginning in 1959 as a television model and later joining Teatro Martí, Teatro Estudio and the troupe El Público. She appeared in numerous telenovelas, comedy programs and over 30 films, becoming a familiar face for several generations of Cubans.

The Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC) announced her passing, describing her as one of the most emblematic and beloved figures of Cuban entertainment. UNEAC expressed condolences to her family, friends and colleagues, noting the “immense void” her loss leaves in the cultural life of the island. Her death has prompted widespread tributes across the Cuban artistic community.
