Paula Soares elected president of the European Thyroid Association

Paula Soares, a professor at the University of Porto's Faculty of Medicine and a researcher at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (i3S), has been inaugurated as the president of the European Thyroid Association (ETA).

Taking office during the 47th ETA Congress held in Porto, Soares becomes the first Portuguese national to lead the scientific society, which has a 60-year history and over 1,000 members. Her two-year mandate will focus on advancing research, education, and clinical practice in thyroid diseases.

Key priorities for her term include strengthening international collaboration, supporting initiatives such as the journal 'The Thyroidologist' and annual meetings, and increasing engagement with young researchers. Soares also aims to bridge the gap between basic research and clinical application while strengthening ties with patient associations to ensure scientific knowledge benefits patients directly.
