Paulina Rubio wins custody battle to keep son in Miami

A Miami-Dade judge, Marlene Fernández-Karavetsos, has ruled in favor of Mexican singer Paulina Rubio in a long-standing legal battle with her ex-husband, Spanish businessman Nicolás Vallejo-Nágera, known as ‘Colate’. The ruling determines that their 15-year-old son, Andrea Nicolás, will continue to reside in Miami rather than moving to Madrid, Spain, as requested by his father.

The decision follows months of hearings and over a decade of legal disputes regarding custody and residence. While Colate had alleged physical and mental abuse by Rubio, an investigation by the Florida Department of Children and Families found insufficient evidence to support these claims. The court noted that while both parents contributed to a difficult family dynamic, Colate’s interference was deemed ‘more systematic and harmful.’

As part of the ruling, the court ordered that the teenager undergo individual and family therapy to reintegrate the relationship between mother and son. Rubio’s legal team expressed gratitude for the decision, while Colate has indicated intentions to appeal the verdict. The ruling also grants Rubio final decision-making authority regarding the teenager's education.
